Overview
On February 23, 2021, President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau signed the "Roadmap for a Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership," an affirmation of the special relationship between the two nations and a blueprint for how Canada and the United States could improve cooperation in six key areas: Combatting COVID-19, Building Back Better, Accelerating Climate Ambitions, Advancing Diversity and Inclusion, Bolstering Security and Defence, and Building Global Alliances.
The Wilson Center Canada Institute hosted an update on the Roadmap in July 2021. Since that event, the Two Michaels have been released from their detention in China, restrictions at the U.S.-Canadian land border have been lifted, and the United States sent a new ambassador to Ottawa. Both countries' leaders also participated in international summits focused on advancing climate goals and promoting North American collaboration.
On March 10, the Canada Institute will host Canadian Ambassador Kirsten Hillman and U.S. Ambassador David Cohen for a one year update on the Roadmap. The virtual event will be held in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa and Canadian Embassy in Washington.
